Saputara hill station is located in a forested area Sahyadri range, Dang district, in the southern area of Gujarat. It is 164km away from Surat and 1000m above the sea level on Maharashtra-Gujarat border. Climate of Saputara remains consistently beautiful, however even in summer temperature does not cross 28°C.

However, it is a natural blessed destination to visit, tourists enjoy its cool climate throughout the year. It is popular for lush green forests, mountains, waterfalls, landscapes, famous gardens. In fact, it is a beautiful place which is habitat of snakes and the tribal there. Bhil, Kunbi and Warli are main tribal communities living there.

History

The word ‘Saputara’ name means ‘abode of serpents,’ reflected in the serpent image on the Sarpagana river’s banks, showcasing the town’s rich cultural heritage. The tribal communities worship the serpent image, especially during Holi, as a cherished part of their cultural heritage. Besides, it is believed that Lord Rama spent their 11 years of exile in these forests adding a layer of spiritual significance to its natural beauty.

  • Log Hut: – It is on the peak of hill in front of Saputara Lake, including 5 rooms, made of wooden blocks.

The best time to visit Saputara is between October and February, when the temperature is favorable, ranges between 28 to 30° Celsius, which makes it more pleasant. This time is best for the activities like paragliding and biking.

While visiting Saputara, tourists can stay in log huts, the famous wooden constructed huts, to enjoy natural beauty. Log huts are managed by forest department. Other than that, some hotels are also there with different ranges offering good facilities and also arranges treks and camps to nearby places.

In the Artist Village, visitors can buy pottery, vases, jewelry, keychain, paintings and other materials. Pure honey is also available here but a little high-priced.

Here, North Indian food and Gujarati thalis are very delicious and stalls of nimbu paani, sodas and golas are also available.
